William V. McCann, Jr., University of Idaho Alum, Honored with 165th Distinguished Service Award

McCann receives his Distinguished Service Award

The Fraternity’s mission is advancing the highest standards of friendship, scholarship, leadership and service for our members throughout life. When something is throughout life, it represents a bond that cannot be broken. It represents undying loyalty, a dedication to something no matter how easy or tough, no matter when. Loyalty knows no bounds, and you are the personification of loyalty.

As an undergraduate, not only did you lead your chapter as Eminent Archon, you also led the campus as a Student Body President. You’re still loyal through and through to both, supporting the Fraternity and your alma mater to this day. As a leader, you’ve always focused on a firm belief in the teachings, reasonings, and interpretations behind laws. No wonder you established a law practice in your hometown.

From there you were instrumental in the economic development of your local and statewide communities, particularly in commercial property, livestock, and timber. You eventually took over your family’s business, which you still run today, and are a regular donor to your university. Your loyalty to family, home, and school is easily quantified with how much time, money, and energy you continuously give to each.

Once your son joined the Fraternity, it rekindled your passion for our Brotherhood. Not that you ever strayed far, but this was certainly the catalyst that sparked your reinvolvement and exemplified what you believe in: undying loyalty. You want others to feel that sense of belonging that you have. So, you figured out how to use your expertise to help retain that for next generations.

With a background in property management and law, you helped lead a $1.5 million dollar remodel of your chapter house. It was no easy feat and took years of fundraising, but you created a lasting, physical beacon for the years to come. You eventually found your way onto the Financial & Housing Board of Directors where you continue to promote and build stronger chapters through great housing. For your dedication and loyalty, the Fraternity has already awarded you with the Order of Minerva and the Merit Key.

Accordingly, the Supreme Council of Sigma Alpha Epsilon awards you, William V. McCann, Jr., the 165th Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a member of our Beloved Fraternity, granted on the 21st day of June in the year 2025 and presented at Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s 169th Anniversary Convention.
