On Saturday, March 28, 2026, the VA Zeta Chapter at Virginia Tech brought together 34 brothers and 8 alumni for a hands-on service project supporting Sleep in Heavenly Peace (New River Valley Chapter), an organization dedicated to ensuring that no child sleeps on the floor.

The event took place in the parking garage of the Blacksburg Police Department, where volunteers transformed the space into a full-scale bed-building operation.

Thanks to the chapter raising more than $15,000 in donations, the group was fully equipped to complete an ambitious goal: building sixty beds for children in need. In just under four hours, the team exceeded expectations, completing the builds with efficiency, energy, and teamwork.

Throughout the morning, brothers and alumni worked side-by-side cutting, sanding, drilling, and assembling bed frames. The environment was filled with focus and collaboration as participants understood the deeper purpose behind the effort, creating safe and comfortable sleeping spaces for children in the local community.

Alumni in attendance expressed pride in the chapter’s commitment to service and the leadership demonstrated by the undergraduate brothers. The event highlighted the strength of the bond between past and present members, all working together toward a shared mission of impact and service.

By the end of the day, sixty beds were completed and will soon be delivered to children throughout the New River Valley. The effort represents more than just a service project, it reflects the lasting impact of fraternity brotherhood when combined with purpose, teamwork, and community engagement.
