As brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, we strive to reach the highest standards of friendship, scholarship, leadership, and service throughout our lives

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation awards merit-based academic scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students. This academic year, $94,000 will be awarded, thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends who have established these scholarships.

By completing the application form and submitting all required recommendations and transcripts, applicants will be automatically considered for the following scholarships: Allen, Archibald, Collins, Generelly, Jones-Laurence, Mancini, Poslusny, Trustees Awards, and the SAE Foundation Scholarship Award for Overall Excellence. Applicants who complete the application form, submit all required recommendations and transcripts, and are enrolled in a business or scientific degree are automatically considered for the Rockwell Scholarship. Additional interest-specific awards are also available through this application. Members who meet the requirements may apply for as many scholarships as they wish.   • Applicants must be a member in good standing of Sigma Alpha Epsilon by February 28, 2023.
  • Applicants must be enrolled as a student in the academic year 2023-2024. Scholarships are applied to a winner’s college tuition in the upcoming 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA or higher.
  • Applicants must submit their own application and supporting materials

The deadline for all application materials, official transcripts and letters of recommendation to be received is 11:59pm Central Standard Time on March 1, 2023. Please allow ample time for recommenders to submit their recommendations and for official transcripts to arrive. Because the United States Postal Service may require additional time for processing and sorting mail, you should submit official transcript requests to your institution(s) as early as possible.

Two letters of recommendation are required to apply for a scholarship. Letters of recommendation must be recent letters, that were written within the past year and dated by March 1, 2022. Letters of recommendation must be submitted using the online scholarship portal. On the application form, you will provide your recommenders’ contact information. Your recommenders will receive an email with a link to complete the recommendation form. Letters of recommendation will only be accepted using this form. Please plan ahead and ask your recommenders early so that they have enough time to write and submit their letters prior to the application deadline.

Official transcripts are required to apply for a scholarship. Official electronic transcripts are accepted and preferred, and additional details on where to send them is available in the application. You have the opportunity to upload unofficial transcripts when you apply, however, you must also send your official transcript. Each college and university has its own process to request and send official transcripts electronically and by mail. Please plan ahead and request your official transcripts early so they are submitted prior to the application deadline.

You can view the status of your scholarship application on the scholarship portal. You will need to use the same email address you did when you created your account. If you submit your application prior to our receipt of your letters of recommendation or official transcripts, your application status will be marked as Pending. Once your application form, letters of recommendation, and official transcripts have been submitted, your application status will change to Complete. Please note that your application is not complete and will not be considered until your application, letters of recommendation, and official university transcript are received.

The Foundation Scholarship Commission reads all completed applications and supporting documents, and evaluates them based on the four values of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity: Friendship, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. Scholarship winners will be selected and notified in May 2023.

Overall Leadership Awards

Two scholarships for $1,000 (One $1,000 scholarship awarded to a national applicant, one $1,000 scholarship awarded by the Greater Atlanta Alumni Association to an applicant initiated into a Georgia chapter)

Established in memory of Brother Ivan Allen Jr. (Georgia Tech ’33), this award was created by Atlanta-area brothers. The award is given to the brother whose
leadership in the chapter and community demonstrates the spirit of Allen, a former Atlanta mayor. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000

Established in memory of Brothers Fred J. Archibald (Cornell ’45) and his father, Fred I. Archibald (Nebraska ’14), this award recognizes brothers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their chapter, community and school. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000 – $4,000

Established in memory of Brother Charles F. Collins (Boston ’12), this award recognizes brothers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and service in the Fraternity, on the campus and in the community. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $1,000 – $3,000

Established in memory of past ESA Richard Generelly (George Washington ’47), this award recognizes brothers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their chapter, community and school. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000-$3,000

Established in memory of past Eminent Supreme Archon Walter B. Jones (Auburn ’10) and Philip J. Laurence (Minnesota ’15), the award is given to the brothers who display the most outstanding academic achievement. A GPA of 3.9 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000 – $3,000

Established in memory of past ESA Joseph Mancini (Cincinnati ’35), this award recognizes brothers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their chapter, community and school.

A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000 – $4,000

Past Honorary Eminent Supreme Archon and former Foundation Trustee Warren Paul “Pos” Poslusny (Kettering ’69) established this award to recognize brothers who have demonstrated an enthusiastic commitment to the highest ideals expressed in “The True Gentleman” including exceptional personal integrity while leading chapter and campus activities, coupled with notable philanthropic service and scholastic achievement. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

One scholarship for $2,000

Funded by Foundation Trustees, this award recognizes brothers who demonstrate quality involvement in campus and chapter leadership positions, particularly the measure of his contribution to the education of his chapter brothers. A GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

One scholarship for $5,000

Established in 2021, this award recognizes brothers who have demonstrated overall excellence living the values of the Fraternity: Friendship, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Specific Leadership Awards

One scholarship for $2,000

Past Eminent Supreme Recorder Bob Hamrdla (Stanford ’60) established this award for a brother in any major with transcripts that reflect considerable study of 19th and 20th century history. Applicants with interest in modern German history or the two World Wars will receive preferred consideration. A GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

One scholarship for $1,000

Established in memory of Brother Gordon L. Rockwell (Michigan Gamma ’66), this award recognizes brothers enrolled in a business or scientific degree. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

One scholarship for $4,000

Established in memory of Brother Dr. Charles A. Preuss (Idaho ’24), this award recognizes brothers attending or planning to attend medical school, or enrolled in a course of study related to medicine and who have demonstrated service to their community and fellow man. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $1,000 – $3,000

Established in recognition of Brother Frank C. Ginocchio’s (Northwestern ’66) leadership while serving on the Sigma Alpha Epsilon staff, this scholarship recognizes brothers who have demonstrated a positive influence in the field of risk management. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $1,000 – $3,000

Established in recognition of Brother Thomas W. Devine’s (Minnesota ’74) volunteer efforts on behalf of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, this scholarship recognizes brothers who have demonstrated a positive influence in the field of risk management. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Scholarships for $2,000 – $4,000

Established in memory of Brother W. Emil Forman (Pennsylvania ’29), this award recognizes brothers who have shown extraordinary commitment to their community and fellow man as demonstrated by community service work. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

One scholarship for $1,000

Past Eminent Supreme Archon Brad Cohen (Arizona ’85) established this award to recognize brothers who have shown extraordinary courage in overcoming a major personal or organizational obstacle. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.

Number of scholarships and amount vary based on the number and quality of applicants

Established in 2021, this award recognizes Qualified Students in the following priority: (i) Members attending the University of San Francisco; (ii) children of Members attending the University of San Francisco; (iii) children of Members attending another college or university; and (v) descendants (as defined in Section 6205 and clarified in Section 21115, of the California Probate Code) of Members who are attending another college or university who have demonstrated overall excellence living the values of the Fraternity: Friendship, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. A GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or higher is required.
