Home Foundation Ways to Give

There are numerous ways you can continue to give and support SAE as an undergraduate and beyond. Every gift is truly appreciated. Together, we can do so much to ensure a bright future for our organization and its members. On behalf of everyone who benefits from your generosity, thank you for your gift.

The SAE Annual Loyalty Fund is the annual giving program of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation. Your donation provides resources not only for the Fraternity to operate, but provides funds for the Leadership School, the preservation of the Levere Memorial Temple, and other initiatives of the SAE Foundation.

The following instructions are for transferring gifted shares of individual securities or mutual funds to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation. We appreciate ALL generous contributions to the Foundation.

Individual Stock

To make a gift of individual stock please contact or call the Fraternity Service Center at 847-475-1856 and ask to speak to the Foundation.

Mutual Fund Shares

To make a transfer gift of mutual fund shares, please contact the Foundation with the following information

  • Donor name
  • Number of shares, ticker, and name of mutual fund to be transferred
  • Contact info at current broker (individual name, firm name, phone and/or email)

**Please note that the transfer of mutual funds is a much more involved process than gifting individual stocks and can take significantly longer (several weeks) to complete. We appreciate your patience and ask that you plan accordingly regarding year-end gifts of mutual fund shares. We recommend that you begin the transfer before Thanksgiving if the year of the contribution is important.

Planned Gifts

The Heritage Society honors brothers who choose to remember SAE in their estate planning. Heritage Society donors have documented planned gifts on file with the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation.

Already have SAE in your estate plan? Document your gift. Please contact or send a letter to 1856 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL 60201 to be recognized as a member of the Heritage Society.

Types of Planned Gifts

Investments of cash are always appreciated. However, there are other flexible and creative ways to benefit you, your family, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. You can leave a legacy with SAE by creating a trust while you are living or by including the Foundation in your will.

One of the simplest ways to support SAE’s future, a bequest provides a gift to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation in your will.

More and more alumni choose to reach beyond their lives to give to the future by making a bequest to the Foundation in their will. Gifts to the Foundation are deductible in determining the value of your estate and can reduce your estate tax liability. If you plan to make a charitable gift by will, please consult with your attorney and be as clear as possible in describing what you want to give and to whom.

We are grateful to those who name the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation in their wills and would like the opportunity to thank you both privately and publicly by including your name on our donor list. If you prefer to remain anonymous, your gift will be kept in complete confidence. However, recognition of your gift can encourage others to do the same. We honor each donor’s wishes individually because we appreciate your support.

Tributes & Memorials

One of the most thoughtful contributions an individual can make is a gift in honor or in memory of a brother, friend, or relative. An honorary or memorial gift is an appropriate way to recognize someone’s life and accomplishments, while supporting the mission of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation.

A personal acknowledgment is sent to the family or individual, without reference to the size of the gift. All Honor and Memorial Gifts are listed in The Record (fall edition). Honor and Memorial Gifts may be made on our donation page, by mail using the Memo line of your check, or by contacting the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation at 847-424-3013.

Matching Gifts

As a donor to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation, you may be able to double or even triple the impact of your outright gift if your employer or your spouse’s employer offers a matching gift program.

Such programs typically match all or a percentage of employee contributions to charitable organizations, making the employer a partner in your personal philanthropy. In most cases, all you need to do is obtain a matching gift form from the personnel department, fill it out, and include it with your gift to the Foundation. We will do the rest.

If you have any questions, please contact Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation or your employer.

Other Ways to Give

To make a donation from your IRA, donor-advised fund, or a gift of annuity, please speak with your financial advisor and indicate the fund to which you wish your gift to be directed. The Foundation’s tax ID is 36-2170145.

Checks should be made payable to:

  • First, you have to make an irrevocable contribution to a sponsoring charitable organization to establish a donor-advised fund (e.g. Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, etc.).
  • You then become a donor-advisor and the sponsoring organization allocates the charitable contribution to your Donor-Advised Fund.
  • You have the opportunity to name the Donor-Advised Fund and retain advisory privileges over the investment allocation for the Donor-Advised Fund. The investment options available vary by sponsoring organization and since the assets in the Donor-Advised Fund belong to the sponsoring organization; any investment growth is tax-free.
  • You have advisory privileges over the disbursements made from the Donor-Advised Fund. You recommend disbursements, but they must meet the grant-making criteria of the sponsoring organization. Typically, disbursements may only be recommended to IRS-qualified public charities exclusively for charitable purposes, such as the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation.
  • Additionally, your tax-deduction is recognized when you make the initial gift to establish the Donor-Advised Fund. According to the IRS, grants made from Donor-Advised Fund are not considered tax-deductible because you have already received a tax deduction when you created the fund.
  • When you want to make a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund, you simply submit a request for disbursement. You will do this through your sponsoring organization’s website/system.
  • Once the sponsoring organization approves the recommended disbursements, we receive notification that the grant has been made. It will generally come to us in the form of a check.
  • You will receive a thank you letter and recognition of your gift from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation.
