Sigma Alpha Epsilon strives to give young men the leadership, scholarship, service and social experiences they need to excel outside the walls of their alma mater. Your academic pursuit is most important, but how you excel at extracurricular activities and your social life aren’t skills you often find in the classroom. Sigma Alpha Epsilon gives you the opportunity to test your values in different situations and to work with others whose values may differ.
Our educational framework, known as the True Gentleman Experience, provides a holistic learning experience that adapts with each academic year to provide relevant content during each stage of college and beyond. Our program takes place on an individually chosen basis, much like fulfilling a degree or course of study, and unlike traditional "pledging" programs, the True Gentleman Experience won't take away from members' studies by requiring weekly meetings or events. Since our process occurs evenly throughout the year, members can choose the path that best suits their personal and professional goals.
Helping every individual to meet his true potential is the foundation of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Friends can distract you or impact you, so one of the best ways to succeed in college and in life is by surrounding yourself with people who will motivate you to achieve. We don’t seek men to “mold” into some ideal; we celebrate individuality and challenge our members to share their unique strengths. Through encouragement, values and brotherhood, we empower every member to exceed his personal expectations and live the life of a true gentleman.
In the humble service for others, you will find out more about your positive qualities than in all the brick-and-mortar classrooms in the world. You want to give back to your community. To your neighbors. The society around you needs role models. You have the potential to do something good. And you have the potential to change the public perception of what a fraternity man does.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon was founded on March 9, 1856, at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Now, as we celebrate our 160 years, our brotherhood has grown to over 331,000 initiated members, 235 collegiate chapters & colonies and roughly 250 alumni associations across the country. We strive to prepare young men not just for their undergraduate years but also for the years beyond the walls of the host institution. Our belief is that when our members graduate, they will look back and realize they are a better man—a true gentleman—because of their undergraduate experience with Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
