Statement Regarding Chapter at University of New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, NM –
The Sigma Alpha Epsilon headquarters has taken disciplinary measures against its New Mexico Tau chapter at the University of New Mexico following an incident last week.

The chapter has been issued a cease-and-desist order as a result of risk-management violations and failure to follow national policies. An immediate investigation is being conducted and, during this time, chapter operations are suspended until further notice.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon maintains a zero-tolerance policy for actions and behaviors that fail to comply with the organization’s stringent guidelines on risk management, social events and conduct. In addition, the national organization apologies to anyone who may have been affected by chapter members’ behavior that was not consistent with our creed, “The True Gentleman.”

The national organization operates nearly 250 groups in the United States with approximately 13,000 collegiate members. All of our members are required to ascribe to our creed, mission and regulations as a condition of membership. We are committed to providing a safe, meaningful membership experience to all of our members and others in the university community.
