CHAPTER EDUCATION FUNDS (CEF) / FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
What is a Chapter Education Fund (CEF) or Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation scholarship as you define it? For the purposes of the John O. Moseley Leadership School: A Chapter Education Fund (CEF) is defined as a tax-deductable fund that is held in trust for the chapter by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation. Each year, 5% of the cash value of the fund as of July 1 may be used for Leadership School tuition and/or cost of one Leadership School registration. For questions if you have a CEF, contact Nanci Gasiel at ngasiel@sae.net or at (847) 424-3009.
A scholarship is defined as a Merit Key/Collins Fund/Ladies Leadership School scholarship that you were awarded. This is awarded by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation or the Ladies Leadership School Fund. It does not include tuition that is paid for by the province, house corporations, chapter, alumni or alumni associations. If you have a question, contact Nanci Gasiel at ngasiel@sae.net or at (847) 424-3009.
What if my tuition for Leadership School is paid by either CEF or Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation Scholarships (as defined above), and I cancel/do not attend? If your tuition was paid by one of these methods above, and if you cancel after the May 29 registration deadline, you will be required to pay the amount used for your tuition from the fund. It is critical that, if you are a recipient of these awards, you attend Leadership School. Otherwise you will need to repay the fund in order to ensure it can continue to provide for future generations of leaders.
How do I know if my tuition for Leadership School is paid by either CEF or Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation scholarship (as defined above)? You will receive an e-mail stating that your tuition was paid for by one of these funds, which will reference the amount awarded.
21-YEAR-OLD ATTENDEE RESPONSIBILITIES / ROOMMATES
What are my responsibilities as a 21-year-old? As an attendee that is age 21 or older, there are several responsibilities that are critical for the success of Leadership School. In addition to following all applicable local, state and federal laws, the guidelines of Royal Caribbean and the attendance of all sessions of the Leadership School, at least one person is 21 or older must be in each stateroom. This is a requirement of the cruise line.
Why must each stateroom have someone age 21 or older in it? It is the policy of Royal Caribbean that each stateroom have at minimum one legal adult residing in it, and that means a person aged 21 or older, according to the cruise’s guidelines.
If I’m 21 years old, what exactly do I need to do? We ask that you arrive and check-in as early as possible with the staff at the J.W. Marriott Miami so that we know you are attending. In addition, you should plan to take one of the first two buses out to the ship. Busses will begin to depart at 9 am from the J.W. Marriott Miami. Please note, our roommates on the ship will not be able to board until you have arrived and checked in.
I want to room with my friend from my chapter. How does that work? We are sorry, but as a result of the requirement for each room to have at least one person who is 21 or older, we are unable to honor any roommate requests at this time.
May I request my roommate? We are sorry, but because of the requirement by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines of having a 21-year-old in each room, we cannot honor room requests. We will do our best to accommodate and have brothers from the same chapters in the same room; however, we make no guarantees
Help! I’m running late! Who do I contact? If you are running late or have any questions, please call or text James Irwin, Director of Educational Programs at (847) 513-1655. A text message that includes your name and chapter designation and your status will help us keep track of where you are.
TRAVEL
When should I plan to arrive? You should plan on arriving on Sunday, August 4, 2013, or Monday, August 5, 2013, whether you are flying or driving. Be advised, the ship leaves promptly Monday afternoon, so if you experience travel problems or delays, there is nothing Sigma Alpha Epsilon can do to hold the departure or refund your registration fees. Please plan your travel accordingly.
Will I need a hotel? If you are coming in on Sunday, August 4, 2013, then yes, you will need a hotel room. However, we have arranged for our official hotel property – the same hotel where registration will take place and where our members will gather – as the J.W. Marriott Miami. And we’ve arranged for a special discounted rate for our group. You can make your reservation by clicking HERE.
When should I plan on leaving? If you are flying, you should not book your flight to depart before 1:00 pm on Friday, August 10.

OUR CRUISE SHIP
On what ship are we sailing? You will be sailing on Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas.
To see information about the ship, including virtual tours and deck plans, click HERE.
Where will we be sailing? The cruise will sail from the Port of Miami, Florida, on Monday, August 5, through Friday, August 9, making its way through the Caribbean. Our attendees’ port of call this year will be Nassau, the Bahamas, where delegates will be able to disembark and enjoy tourist destinations and excursions in the town.
OUR SCHEDULE & EXPECTATIONS
What will we be doing at Leadership School, and what can I expect for the schedule? Leadership School is, above all else, an educational program. While the school is hosted on a cruise ship, this is not the SAE cruise. You are on the ship to enhance your leadership skills to assist both your personal growth and development and the development of your chapter. We simply provide the cruise-ship venue as a more exciting, engaging backdrop for which our educational programming takes place in a destination setting. Please see below for a link to last year's schedule. You are required to be in attendance at all sessions while school is in session. This means that you will attend not only your chapter meeting with your faculty member but also all break-out sessions for each scheduled period. Delegates have an opportunity to enjoy the cruise line’s offerings at the very end of our business day. Failure to attend your sessions will result in the failure of Leadership School.

CODE OF CONDUCT
What is the Code of Conduct, and why do I need to agree to it? As an attendee of our school, you will be asked to agree to the following terms, which help designate us as true gentlemen and leaders.
I do hereby agree to adhere to the following Code of Conduct while I am a delegate of the 78th Leadership School and a guest of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. My conduct will at all times be a reflection of “The True Gentleman.” I will not violate the laws of the land, the regulations of my university/college, the rules Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines or the Fraternity Laws and risk-management policies of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
I fully understand that it is a felony to tamper with any fire-safety device, and that if caught, I will be prosecuted and subject to fine and arrest. I also fully understand that any threats to the safety of the ship or its employees are a violation of Homeland Security laws, which are felonies and may result in fines and imprisonment.
If I fail in any way to follow this Code of Conduct, I fully understand that the Eminent Supreme Recorder has the right to remove me from the school immediately and send me home at my own expense, or with my chapter being billed by the Fraternity Service Center. I also understand that if this occurs, my membership in Sigma Alpha Epsilon may be terminated.
I understand the phones in my room are for ship-to-shore calls. They are quite expensive and are my responsibility. The wireless internet connection available on board is also expensive and my responsibility. I will use common sense when taking advantage of these services. I understand that there is a gambling casino on board. I agree to use common sense if I do use these facilities. Additionally, I understand that any gambling debt or purchase during the cruise is my personal responsibility and not the Fraternity’s.
I understand that Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines provides alcoholic beverages to guests 21 years of age or older and that Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines also provides a gambling casino that may be used by anyone 18 years of age or older. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines provides on-board security to enforce these rules. I further understand no alcohol or gambling is allowed during the day until the last session of Leadership School is finished for that day. Also, since there are many other passengers on board, I understand that no members will take shots/shooters, chug alcohol or participate in drinking games. I will conduct myself at all times as a true gentleman.
As a gentleman, I understand that some t-shirt slogans or pictures can be vulgar or tasteless. I will refrain from wearing such a shirt while on the cruise ship. If I have a question as to my shirt’s acceptability, I will ask a staff or faculty member for guidance. I realize that this type of dress reflects on the image of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
I understand that if my poor attendance at general sessions and chapter meetings or my conduct warrants my failing Leadership School and not being awarded a diploma, I will be responsible for reimbursing the total tuition cost paid by the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation and/or my Chapter Education Fund or other scholarship fund. Additionally, I understand that if my actions cause injury to someone or something, I will indemnify and hold Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Foundation harmless from any claims arising from my actions.
