STATEMENT REGARDING CHAPTER AT
WASHINGTON & LEE

LEXINGTON, VA – The Sigma Alpha Epsilon headquarters has suspended the charter of our Virginia Sigma chapter at Washington & Lee University as a result of health-and-safety violations. Effective immediately, the chapter will close, and its members will be suspended and lose all membership privileges until they graduate or separate from the institution.

We regret the closure of a historic chapter, but Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s leadership will not tolerate activities that are not aligned with our core values, mission and creed. In addition, we view the relationship with the university as a partnership.

The suspension of the charter will last for a period of no less than three years. We are hopeful that we can re-establish the Virginia Sigma chapter — one of our oldest chapters — with a new group of men who exemplify Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s mission in the near future.
